Issue #33: Allistar Banks, She Made it Possible

I've been saying it for years, "Every Entrepreneur Needs to Write a Book to Boost Their Biz!"

Being an author, a lover of writing and constantly looking for ways to self-improve....I can't wait for you to meet Allistar Banks who is truly a purpose driven woman after my own heart that really gets what I'm saying about the connection between female empowerment and writing! She's a prolific author, published five books in the last two years and somehow and somehow finds the time to inspire and motivate women who are suffering with low self-worth and weight management to live their best healthy lifestyle for years to come.

Allistar has been an author since 2018. Her readers range from preschoolers between the ages of 2-5 for her books A Colorful Balloon Ride and Lenny the Lizard and His Green Scarf to young adults between the ages of 14-25 for her novels called Girl Rise and Cracking the Happy Weight Code.

She is known for her children’s books that teach new concepts and emotional development and her young adult novels that teach how to break free from low-self worth and having a bad relationship with food. She is now honored to be on a future broadcast with the CBS Sunday Morning Show for her children’s book called A Colorful Balloon Ride, which teaches one to five-year-old’s their colors by using objects of carnival food and nature on Mary and Emily’s hot air balloon ride around the County Fair with Mr. John.

I know it all sounds unbelievably awesome, but for now enjoy learning a little bit more about this awesome speaker, her upcoming guest speak, business and why she's one of the few women I'm proud to share inside our Impossible to Possible Women sistahood.

Where did the idea for your business come from?

The business of my business, Characters & Words Collection LLC was inspired from a dream that my mother had about me owning my own bookstore someday. In the dream, I decorated the store with bookworms and I wore different hats for each story that I read to children at story-time. After the dream, I incorporated the bookworm into my logo. That's how my business came to life.

What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?

I get up in the morning and I make coffee, pray, meditate, and I work on writing my books provided with my outline. Then, I work on my blog and social media and follow up on messages through email and social media. Since the corona-virus hit, I started doing story-time between the hours of 12-1 p.m. Monday through Friday on my Facebook page.

How do you come up with your business concepts (ideas, offers)?

I come up with my business concepts based upon my books.

What's one business trend that really excites you?

I love the idea of virtual meetings, events, and story-times.

What's your secret ME Time routine (gratitude practice) that makes you more productive?

By getting up every morning and praying. I have found a channel on YouTube called Boho Beautiful and she takes you through a nine-day challenge of meditations.

Day 1 Guided Meditation for Being Present, day two is called Guided Meditation for Gratitude, day three is Guided Meditation for Peace & Contentment, day four is Guided Meditation for Self-Acceptance, day five is Guided Meditation for Letting Go, day six is Guided Meditation to End Your Day, day seven is Best Guided Meditation for Inner Strength, day eight is Easy Guided Meditation for Manifesting Dreams, and day nine is Guided Meditation for Healing. Acceptance of the Present Moment is a great meditation of where we see our life going. “Resisting does more harm to you.”-Boho Beautiful

What advice would you give your younger entrepreneur self?

Don't be so hard on yourself. Trust the process.

What's your #1 biz fear that you deal with and how do you kickass past it?

Keeping consistent book sales and public and private schools being able to afford my services.

What is one strategy that has helped you to scale your business?

I have learned to join Facebook groups and contact Facebook pages that centered around my target audience for my children’s and young adult books. I have learned to use searchable hashtags and keywords for people to find my books on Amazon.

What's one valuable business tip/advice from "your" business that will help our readers.

To stay positive and happy when things go wrong.

What did you purchase (product, program or service) recently to support your business?

Share at least one thing you've learned from being inside the Impossible to Possible Women Members Club and how has this helped your business

I can't just pick one thing because everything I have learned has brought me value and advice.

What's your go to system that you use to help your business grow?

The Fussy Librarian, Twitter, Welcome to Ms. Yearby’s Reading Adventures, Connect Augusta, and the Speakers, Authors, and Coaches network.

What's your favorite book and why?

The Help because the book is set in the south and I loved learning about how negro black maids raised white families children because I had an African American caregiver growing up who helped raise me.

What is your favorite quote and why?

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."-Eleanor Roosevelt I love this quote because it reminds me that no one has the power to make me feel bad about myself without a valid reason.
